We are a collective of humans and animals, living and learning together on the prairie. Guided by our role as stewards of the Earth (Genesis 2:15), we believe in living simply, caring deeply, and sharing what we know. Our mission is not only to create a safe haven for animals, but to provide others with the tools, inspiration, and support to pursue a more self-sufficient and intentional life.
Little Prairie Collective is a one-part animal sanctuary and one-part hands-on homesteading experiment. We share what works—and what doesn’t—so others can learn from our journey. Through stories, blueprints, and daily lessons from life in Zone 5 South Dakota, we aim to show that humble, sustainable living is within reach for anyone, anywhere. What is the Little Prairie Collective?
The Little Prairie Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation working to create an animal sanctuary and off-grid homestead rooted in sustainability, compassion, and education. We’re documenting the journey to inspire others and eventually welcome guests for immersive, hands-on learning.

Where are you located?
We’re tucked away on a little prairie in South Dakota, where rescued animals roam, gardens grow, and stars shine bright. We don’t currently publish the exact location online for the safety of our animals, but we’ll share more as we grow.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! We are a registered 501(c)(3) private foundation. Your donation may be tax-deductible as allowed by law. Our EIN is 99-2389161. We recommend speaking with your tax advisor for specific guidance.

How will my donation be used?
Every donation helps cover essentials like animal feed, shelter building, veterinary care, and development of our off-grid infrastructure and educational content. We steward every dollar with care and purpose.

Can I volunteer or visit the sanctuary?
Not just yet! We’re still in the early building phase. As soon as it’s safe and sustainable, we’ll be opening up opportunities for visits, volunteer days, and community events. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know.

Do you accept animals for rescue?
Right now, we’re focused on establishing a safe and sustainable base before we open up for animal intakes. Our goal is to expand in a way that allows us to responsibly and lovingly care for every life we commit to. Still, reach out , and we’ll see if we can help or will refer you to another sanctuary in the Black Hills.
